Digital accessibility regulators are national bodies that monitor and ensure that organizations comply with accessibility laws. In Sweden, DIGG (Authority for Digital Governance) is the main supervisory authority for the DOS Act and public sector digital accessibility. DIGG has the authority to conduct inspections, demand corrections, and issue sanctions in case of non-compliance. For the EAA legislation that comes into force in 2025, several authorities will have supervisory responsibilities depending on the industry - the Swedish Consumer Agency for Certain Services, the Post and Telecom Agency for Telecoms, and the Financial Supervisory Authority for Banking. Regulators use various methods such as spot checks, complaint handling, and systematic reviews. They also publish guidance, educational materials, and accessibility status reports. Organisations should maintain regular contact with relevant regulatory authorities to keep up to date on requirements and expectations.
